Capital One Bank

My research paper in my Management class was on Capital One Bank. Doing this paper I learned alot about the financial sectors and about my bank. Of course my bank is now Capital One Bank. Two years ago it was NorthFork Bank and before that Greenpoint Bank. Capital bank did a merger and acquired both the two largest banks Hiberia National and North Fork bank. These mergers were not very successful. As a result their shares went down and this could hurt the shareholders. Capital One largest competitors are American Express, Discover,etc. This bank is a diversified organization that has gone international to the United Kingdom and Canada. They sponsor various academic forums for students attending college and offer financial advice on how to manage money. They have also been voted as one of the best 100 companies to work for. They are for the working families, low income people.

One of Capital One's down fall was that they offer credit to people with little or no credit. This is a way for people to repair or gain credit standing. However, this caused alot of accounts to go dilinquent as well as the bank lost some revenues due to charge-offs mainly on auto loans. The economy has some adverse effect on some of these pressures that banks are facing today, but through it all Capital one has remain beneficial in good and/or bad times. When I first learned that my bank was changed to Capital One, I was tempted to changed banks. After doing this research I am glad that I am a procrastinator and stayed with them. This bank is very strong.
